The Clinic is set amongst the tea plantations in Sri Lanka. Tea is grown high on the mountains which reach heights of 8000 feet. Most of the tea plantation workers are women. There is very high unemployment in the area especially amongst the men.

The people of the area are very poor. They live in long concrete huts with corrugated iron roofs. Each of these blocks are divided up into many small units where the families live. The clinic visits many remote villages such as this.

The clinic was started and run by Heidi Mudalige, a nurse from Britain, married to Kit, a Sri Lankan. She also taught health care at a ‘Mother and Baby’ Clinic run by KINGSCARE in the area. Since the sad death of Heidi in August 2002, we contribute to the education of her son, Nathan.

A doctor travels around with the mobile clinic. The staff also include nurses and a driver. Additional voluntary help is given locally in setting up the clinic in each village.

This is the vehicle used by the mobile clinic. The roads are very bad but this vehicle can carry the staff to the remote sites of the clinics.
