"It has been raining nonstop in Jaffna (and in the rest of Sri Lanka) for 7 days. Then a cyclone hit Jaffna and the situation is desperate.

Last night we heard that there were 45 families sheltering in the church because they had lost their homes in the flooding. Then last night the roof was blown off the church building, the whole building is drenched and flooded so it is not possible to shelther there any more.

Elim children's home is flooded and the children are sheltering on the second floor. The outside sewage pits have overflown and there is at least 1.5 m of water flooding everything and mixing with the sewage. There is real danger of disease spreading.

Please can you let people know so that they can pray and if it's possible to have an emergency appeal, it would be much appreciated."

Two days of high Winds and heavy rains causes extreme damage to property and distress to people. The resulting Flood waters were at some places 4ft high, Houses were flooded and people had to evacuate their Homes and take shelter in Schools, Roads were flooded and very little traffic – Trees and Lamp posts fallen across the road.

Our Church Building was damaged – Roof Asbestos sheets broken and 3ft water entered the Building. We can not hold services without repairing the Church.

Our Pastors visited some of the people and we distributed 50 loaves of Bread. Hospital Patients had no drinking water or food.

Whatever help possible, whatever God lays upon your heart will be greatly appreciated. We have over 600 families that are affected.
